Mata tirtha aunsi or the Mother’s day is the annual festival of Hindu celebrated on every new moon day of first month of Nepali calendar.
The festival is also known as “Aamako Mukh Herne Din”, a day to honor the mother and motherhood. During the day, offspring offer sweets, cloths and gifts to their mother.
Devotees, who do not have mother visit Matatirtha temple located in Chandragiri Municipality of Kathmandu for holy bath and Shraddha. Thousands of Hindu people gather at Matatitha to worship in the temple and remember their departed mothers. It is believed that people can see their mother’s face in the pond on the day.
