TAAN organizes interaction with Tibetan travel agents

With the objectives of sorting out problems while handling tour to Tibet, especially the Kailash and Mansarovar Area, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized an interaction programme on January 27, 208, with managing directors of two leading travel agencies in Tibet: Ngari Travels and Tibet International Sports Travel (TIST).

Documentary on Simikot-Hilsa Tourist Route released

Speaker of the Interim Legislature Mr. Subash Chandra Nembwang on January 28, 2008, released a documentary entitled 'Simikot-Hilsa Tourist Route: Gateway to Kailash and Mansarovar'. The documentary was produced by District Development Committee, Humla, to promote the Simikot-Hilsa route as the gateway to the Kailash and Mansarovar area of the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China.

Royalty Review Committee submits recommendations

The Mountaineering Royalty Review Suggestions Committee (MRRSC) submitted its report to Minister for Culture Tourism and Civil Aviation on January 16, 2008. Mr. Dinesh Hari Adhikari, joint secretary with Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), was the coordinator of the committee.

Call to protect Upper Mustang caves

Archaeologists and other concerned experts have pointed out the need to step up immediate measures for the protection of the archaeologically important objects found in many caves of the Upper Mustang. In course of its research study, a nine-member team of Nepali and foreign experts had recently observed the numerous human-excavated caves and overhanging complexes of the Upper Mustang.

Himalayan Int'l Travel Mart from May 11

More than 100 tour operators from India, Bangladesh, China, Spain, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Honk Kong, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), among others, will be taking part in the three-day 2nd Himalayan International Travel Mart-2007, which is scheduled to begin on May 11.

Visitor arrivals go up in April

The Nepalese tourism industry continued to show upward trend even in the month of April this year. A total of 33,024 foreign tourists visited Nepal by air last month, according to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA). As per data made available by the ministry, the Indian market rebounded considerably with 110% rise, while the non-Indian market shot up by 70%.

Teams climb peaks

Five members of the Kazakhstan-Russia 2007 Expedition team have successfully climbed Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) from the north-east ridge. Mr. Sergey Samoilov, Mrs. Svetlna Sharipova, Mr. Yevgeney Shutov of Kazakhstan and Mr. Sinev Dmitry of Russia climbed the mountain on May 1. Team leader Mr. Denis Urubko of Kazakhstan scaled the peak on May 2 according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA).
